Digitalization of Order Picking Worldwide with Wireless Pick-to-Light

Picking

Customizing

For the Straumann Group, we are currently digitizing two major logistics centers in Madrid and Milan with our wireless pick-to-light solution. The result: faster picking, 50% fewer bad picks — and a global rollout is imminent.

1 Starting position

Thousands of shipments of delicate medical devices — such as dental implants — are assembled every day at the Straumann Group's logistics centers. Manual picking using paper lists was error-prone and inefficient. The aim was a scalable, paperless and fast solution for global use.

2 Approach

Together with the customer, we have designed a wireless pick-to-light solution based on ePaper displays. Special requirements — such as multi-zone picking and the automatic subdivision of customer orders — were mapped on the software side. First implementation in Madrid, followed by Milan — both with over 6,000 storage spaces.

3 Implementation & Outcome

Employees are visually guided through the picking process via LED and display. In Madrid, a zone pick function has also been integrated: orders move digitally from zone to zone and are further processed there. The result: significantly faster processes, a lower error rate and a high level of acceptance within the team.
