eKanban
Digital Labeling
Two large hospitals in Switzerland and Belgium rely on our eKanban solution for digital replenishment management with ePaper displays. Objective: Relieve medical staff, reduce errors and create full process visibility.
1 Starting position
In both clinics, material was previously reordered manually, with paper and a high incidence of errors — particularly with temporary or changing employees. At the same time, there was a lack of transparency for central logistics or pharmacies. The goal: An intuitive, digital eKanban system with visual feedback and data flow.
2 Approach
The solution is based on wireless ePaper labels with an order button. If a storage compartment is empty, the nursing staff presses the button — and immediately triggers an order via ekko. The connection via the ekko API makes the solution compatible with existing systems. The hospital in Brussel is also testing the “Finder” function and evaluating image & barcode recognition of various scanner solutions.
3 Implementation & Outcome
Digital reordering is now possible directly at the warehouse — visually marked with a status indicator on the display (“ORDERED”). The storage locations are fully identified and the inventory is more transparent.
Relieve the workload of nursing staff through simple reordering
Completely paperless replenishment process
Better transparency for pharmacies & logistics
Reduced error rate, particularly with temporary staff
5 FTE savings per year according to ROI calculation
Personal customer feedback
With ekko, we were able to create a user-friendly solution that works directly at the warehouse. Acceptance among care teams is high — and the logistics department sees clear advantages.
